Very good condition overall. The lacquer and painted surface remain in excellent condition with no visible cracks on the face. Some cracking is present mainly on the reverse side, not affecting display. Structurally stable and visually strong.

This mid-20th century Japanese kagura mask represents Omoikane-no-Mikoto (思兼命), the Shinto deity of wisdom, intelligence, and strategic thinking. Traditionally depicted with a thoughtful expression and often a beard (here made from horsehair), Omoikane is known in mythology for devising the plan that lured the sun goddess Amaterasu out of hiding, restoring light to the world.

Kagura is a form of sacred Shinto performance combining music, dance, and ritual, historically performed at shrines to honor the kami (deities). Masks such as this are used to embody divine figures during these performances, allowing the performer to take on the presence and identity of the deity.

Carved from wood and finished with lacquer, this mask reflects traditional craftsmanship adapted in the postwar period for both performance and display. The preserved surface detail and expressive carving make it a strong example of kagura-related artistry.

A well-preserved and culturally significant piece, suitable for collectors of Japanese religious art, masks, and performance traditions.
