1963 Showa Retro Sci Fi Framed B5 Movie Flyer Atragon(海底軍艦 /Kaitei Gunkan)
Original Japanese B5-size movie flyer for the 1963 science fiction film Atragon (海底軍艦 / Kaitei Gunkan), produced by Toho.
Directed by Ishirō Honda, with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya, this film is a classic entry in the tokusatsu genre. It reflects Toho’s signature blend of science fiction, military themes, and large-scale special effects spectacle.
The story centers on the sudden attack of humanity by the underground Mu Empire, an ancient civilization rising from the depths of the sea. Earth’s last hope lies with Captain Hachiro Jinguji, portrayed by Jun Tazaki, who has secretly constructed the powerful warship Atragon (Gotengo), an advanced vessel capable of traveling through land, sea, and air.
The film also stars Tadao Takashima, Yōko Fujiyama, and Akira Hirata. A standout feature is the appearance of Manda, the iconic giant sea dragon that serves as the guardian of the Mu Empire, prominently associated with the film’s imagery.
Based on works by Shunrō Oshikawa and Shigeru Komatsuzaki, Atragon is regarded as a notable example of early 1960s Japanese science fiction cinema and remains a favorite among kaiju and tokusatsu enthusiasts.
Presented in a new B5 frame, this original flyer is ready for display and is an excellent collectible for fans of Toho films, kaiju history, and vintage Japanese movie memorabilia.
