This illustrated Edo-period woodblock printed book, Kamakura Gaiden Ehon Hiraizumi Jikki (鎌倉繪本平泉實記), was first published in 1819 (Bunsei 2). The work is illustrated by Hayami Shungyōsai and presents historical narratives centered on samurai history, drawing from earlier historical records.

The book features detailed illustrations alongside text, characteristic of Edo-period historical ehon (illustrated books). The visual storytelling and craftsmanship reflect the period’s interest in samurai heritage and historical documentation.

A notable feature is the handwritten ownership mark: 黒岩 鉗山 (Kuroiwa Kanzan), likely the name and art name (gō) of a former owner. Additional smaller characters 氏領 indicate a possession mark, suggesting it was part of the Kuroiwa family collection. Such inscriptions add historical depth and provenance to the piece.

An authentic example of Edo-period printed material, suitable for collectors of Japanese books, samurai history, and illustrated woodblock works.
