Original Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III), dating to the 1850s–1860s in the late Edo period. Kunisada was one of the most prominent and commercially successful ukiyo-e artists, especially celebrated for his kabuki actor portraits. This print is in good condition overall with sharp lines and vivid colors although slight insect damage is present in the top left corner.

This single oban-format print depicts a kabuki actor in a striking dramatic pose, capturing the intensity and stylized expression characteristic of kabuki theater. Kunisada’s work is known for its bold compositions, refined linework, and vivid color palettes, all of which are evident in this piece.

Actor prints (yakusha-e) were highly popular in the Edo period, functioning both as artistic works and as visual tributes to famous performers. Today, they remain an important part of Japanese art history and are widely collected.

The print shows some edge wear and insect damage consistent with its age, but the main image area is well-preserved, with crisp lines and strong coloration. This balance of age character and visual clarity makes it a desirable piece for both collectors and display.

A classic example of Edo-period kabuki imagery, ideal for collectors of ukiyo-e or Japanese theater art.
