Good condition overall with no noticeable damage to the image. There are some creases from storage and slight friction wear along the edges, both of which can be minimized when framed.

This 1876 (Meiji 9) ukiyo-e calendar print titled Buun Chōkyūgoyomi (武運長久暦, “Calendar for Lasting Military Fortune”) is signed Toyokuni, from the Utagawa school following Toyokuni III.

The design features modern Western-style ships beneath a rising sun, symbolizing Japan’s growing naval power and modernization during the early Meiji period. Integrated into the composition is a functional almanac chart, combining practical use with visual appeal—a hallmark of calendar prints of this era.

Printed using traditional woodblock techniques, the work reflects the intersection of art, utility, and national sentiment during a time of rapid change in Japan.

A clean and visually striking example of a Meiji-era calendar print, suitable for collectors of ukiyo-e and modernization-themed works.
